About CSI: Who, What, Where, Why, How (2014)
|
Whether it is in Baltimore or a remote community in Africa, Childbirth Survival International (CSI) is a nonprofit for the people. Exactly who? CSI stands with individuals disconnected from health services, resources, and information to be healthy and live to their full potential—women of reproductive age (15-49 years), newborns, children under five years old, adolescents, and youth. CSI works closely with frontline health workers (licensed midwives and nurses) to meet the needs of women and their families.
CSI's low- to no-cost, impactful, and culturally acceptable evidence-based programs have transformed lives of thousands of people across several communities in sub-Saharan Africa. We engage communities, deliver services to the people, we meet them where they are, and together breakdown barriers. CSI's programs are tailored to meet assessed needs within communities and our teams apply a multi-dimensional approach to develop sustainable investments. #CSICares #CSIImpactingLives |
We Reach the Unreached with Health Services, Resources, and Information.
Quality preconception, pregnancy, perinatal, and postpartum health care is the root to healthy families and thriving communities. Women and adolescent girls' health, education, and empowerment is important for the health and well-being of children and families. CSI's Top 5 Priorities guide our work and illustrate the organization's life-course strategy centered on the health, security, education attainment, economic power, and social status of women and girls. As an international organization, CSI gives communities and local partners the space to be true collaborators and partners, earning trust from local government, community leaders, and the families. |

Through CSI's QAD framework, local teams continue to positively impact lives for example pregnant women have received childbirth kits and education; women of reproductive age have received free cervical cancer screening, onsite treatment for positive lesions, follow, and key reproductive health services; and more. CSI's culturally- and evidence-based low-cost community appropriate grassroots work in sub-Saharan Africa and in Baltimore, Maryland have contributed in addressing RMNCACH gaps through program implementation, policy recommendations, and purposeful partnerships. CSI's impact has been made possible by generous individuals and funders such as Jewish Healthcare Foundation, Quarter Fund Members of the Longmont Community Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, PNC Foundation, Rotary Clubs (Pikesville-Owings Mills, Middle River, and Potomac Bethesda), PLO Lumumba Foundation, Alpha Home Care Services LLC, Symbion Power, CAMEL Oil Ltd, NJ Lema & Company, and other CSI partners.
