CSI is engaging adolescents and youth (including men and boys) in conversations to build a healthy, educated, and empowered Next Generation.
Keeping Youth Healthy, Alive, Informed (HAI)
In many developing countries, youth-friendly non-discriminatory health services for adolescents and young people are limited and in some countries non-existent. With at least 1.8 billion young people between 10 and 24 years, and many of them concentrated in developing countries particularly sub-Saharan Africa, an urgency for youth-friendly health services and information is logical; however, weak health systems, shortage of skilled healthcare providers, and lack of economic development opportunities, many young people remain severely underserved and disconnected. When youth are unhealthy, lack access to basic health services, resources, and information, economic development and education opportunities education are less accessible.
There are several epidemics affecting young people - unplanned/unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions, HIV/AIDS and stigma, STIs, self-inflicted injuries, drugs and addiction, unemployment, to name a few. It is imperative to invest in youth for global, health, economic, and community security. It is important for the parents of tomorrow, leaders, entrepreneurs, and the inheritors of the world be Healthy, Alive, Informed (HAI) to carry the torch forward.
Childbirth Survival International collaborates with schools, local leaders and communities to connect with young people with age-appropriate messages, resources, information, and highly educational and interactive sessions. CSI trained and skilled educators apply various youth-friendly and culturally sensitive models to engage, educate and empower young people. In many cultures that reduce the value of the girlchild, a more tailored outreach is necessary to educate and break socially constructed barriers limiting girls from reaching their full potential. CSI also provides entrepreneurship scholarships to qualified youth identified through CSI's programs to receive vocational training and live to their full potential. #CSIYouth
In addition to Keeping Youth HAI, CSI has a program for girls only - Girl Talk, Girl Power and a program for orphans and vulnerable youth - Safina.
